Susan Constable
Dark Clouds
after a week
of unsettling dreams
she watches him
with a thousand eyes,
keeps her back to the wall
hands, we’re told,
are more memorable
than a face:
her delicate fingers,
the size of his fist
petals curl
during a drought …
losing her
I inhale the scent
of white gardenias
a dark cloud
hangs over their house
month after month
they dress in the grief
that consumes them
Susan Constable lives on the west coast of Canada, where she’s been writing mainly haiku and tanka for the past nine years. She is currently the tanka editor for the online journal, A Hundred Gourds.

Joyce Joslin Lorenson
a crack in winter
just wide enough
to let spring in
.
muted
clang of a bell
newborn calf

Vibeke Laier
winter packed
in four boxes
last year’s clouds

Ed Bremson
Cissy
she was a poet
in love with a man
from the land of song
on her dressing table
a diary with cover
coral pink
on its pages
her beautiful thoughts written
in violet ink
she wore blue for luck
ate poetic things –
tulips, roses
and stared out the window
as rain fell in
the rusty bucket

between river, sky, and lover
who could decide

open inside
my ribcage;
an uncertain
yet comforting
